Week Three: Minutes from meeting

From the first meeting, we set a voice recording to record our ideas, this ensuring that nothing would be forgotten from now until next time. Once the meeting was over I transcribed notes off this recording. They are as follows:

Arts and crafts idea

-Could have a table of heaps of art supplies and let people go crazy and see what they make, this was done at the Engine room a couple of weeks ago, an artist was brought in and she started by painting a few big pieces and people carried it on.
-This was straight on the wall, we couldn't do that at the high school, however we could have just one wall covered in paper.
-Felt like it was a little mediocre, we could do better.
-we could take this kind of idea further

Giving something for people to take away

-with the pendant room or snowflake type artwork, we could have an area when you contribute something to it, you put your name in a box or something, so from there, at the end of the market we could pull out a name and they could have the artwork
-only people who would want it would put there name in
-i.e if there were 6 pendants made, we would draw out 6 names

Sustainability

-consider ways we could be sustainable
-In the initial presentation, sustainability was brought up a lot

Interactiveness!!

-everyones ideas revolved a lot around creating something interactive
-people are more drawn to interaction
-people will want to have a go
-when they see other people in the space this will encourage them
-we need to make the space we have colourful, fun, almost over the top
-uniform? matching t-shirts or costumes, cohesive
-if people see we've put in heaps of effort, they will be more inclined to come over and check it out
-GO CRAZY, BE OUT THERE, GET NOTICED
-We want people to check us out, we don't want to blend in or be boring
-If we are outrageous people are more inclined to see what's going on
-all our ideas tend not to be too constraint by the suitcase idea
-we definitely want to go for something quite D.I.Y
-people will feel more involved when they contribute
-tables supplied?
-how long does the market last for?
-set-up time? 1 hour?
-have our stall free to the people, they will be more inclined to interact if its free

Space Considerations

-could play on the whole idea of the suitcase more
-everything has to fit into the suitcase, so far we have been talking about ideas and referring to a room, however we need to take into consideration that we are most likely not getting a room as such
-we won't be building walls
-we will be provided space more likely
-if we did go with one of the pendant idea or something that's dangly, this could create our 'walls'
-we need to consider the roof if we are hanging things
-we could string from the mezzanine- would have to talk to management- holes in walls
-OR  we could create our own framing
-easily fit tent poles that attach together or a gazebo frame in, which can pop up and create our room

Build a garden idea

-lots of mini boxes
-have a range of plants
-people can sit there and plant there plants

Creating a story of the people idea

-a story of the people who come to the market
-pin board
-donate something to the pin board
-item trading
-put something on-take something off
-would people want to contribute?
-would they come with something to put on there?
- would be like receipts, business cards- wallet stuff
-cool idea, IF people are willing to participate
-INVOLVEMENT
-could always have some already on there, like our own contributions

Secret Wall idea

-a wall where people could write down their secrets
-or they post it in a box and we stick it on the wall- more security
-"the confession room"
-or even nice messages instead of a secret
-would have to monitor hate messages
-could be a prayer
-could set it up like a confession booth, where you come in and write a confession in a secure booth and put the message in the box
-its sort of a stress relief- relates to the time (week 10, close to hand-ins)
-have a secluded area, where you could go in and no one could see you, have a box in there and every like 5min or so we would take the confessions from the box and put them on the board, this would mean you wouldn't know who did what one (more security)
-very cost effective, don't need much, just a box of markers and paper
-blue tack would be a good option for putting them up, no holes, sticks to most surfaces
-"post secret" postcards with confessions on them, artist model
-could extend it to let the people stick sticky notes of messages all over the market, does it need to stay in our area?
-the messages could be compliments, could put one in the box and take one out- passing on of good will
-Idea could be expanded well, however we would need to refine and clearly choose whether your make a confession, write a message or write a compliment- don't want confusion, BE OBVIOUS
-anything we do we need to be obviously portrayed, when someone come to our area they need to know whats happening, otherwise confusion could lead them astray
-you want to be INVITED, DRAWN to the space

Knitting Booth Idea

-people get a demo on how to knit
-we get heaps of different yarns
-people knit as much or as little as they want
-we knit it on to a 'collective piece'
-when you come you pick what yarn you like, colour etc
-it'll be random and not so harmonious looking but it will be like a compilation of all the people there
-taste and likes of people
-'come have a yarn'

Playlist Idea

-people come pick a song
-and then we have a big playlist of all the varying tastes of the people at the market
-logistics would need to be highly considered
-would have to monitor the songs so nothing inappropriate comes on
-you would need access to all the songs
-speakers
-music as a focal point could be really hard, as there will be a lot of people in the hall, so thats a lot of noise to compete with
-also other stalls might get mad/need quiet for instructions about their stall

Portraying the different people at the Market idea

-we found that a few of our ideas revolved around portraying all the different personalities of the people
-finding a way to get the essence of that
-people contributing, where at the end we have something to represent everyone thats been there

Entrance Idea

-big entrance something you have to walk through, under or around to get into the market
-big statement
-something that leads you into the market
-can we use outside the hall?
-we could set up, weather dependent, outside on the street and be what lures people into the market
-roll out the red carpet
-sticking stuff around town, arrows? on cuba st, 'come this way to market'
-collect all the people into the market
-wizard of oz, yellow brick road reference-dress as characters, carpet painted like yellow brick road that folds out of suitcase
-could have camera person videoing, live feed to market

Video Installation Idea

-projector
-shadows-interaction
-hand shadows
-'shadow art'
-would need space
-heavy traffic area

Prototyping

-we will need to do a lot of prototyping to ensure that our idea is solid
-could make a mock-up and take it to the streets to test, cuba st
-could video this practice
-could be a smaller version of our idea, something along the lines, see how that works

Pendant Idea

-think further into recycling ideas

Paper Snowflake Idea

-would need to make sure that the paper was durable or thick
-might need bracing
-could use thin cardboard, might not be as delicate and pretty
-would need a lot of prototyping
-we would need stuff on hand to fix it too
-very fragile

-statistics from last year?

-how many people came through the market?
-would be good to get an estimate
-helpful when deciding on supplies

-could look into carnivals and what sort of stalls they have

-blow up bouncy castle?

Eating contest idea

-people all love free food
-competition gets people involved and amped up
-would draw crowds
-could make people pay too, cover the cost of our supplies
-would need a prize maybe?
-students would love a eating contest, free food!

-could create a hashtag for our stall
-set up an online presence
-social media presence
-create a media strategy
-create hype right up to the market
-could have teasers for the event
-could tie our social media into the whole events fb page
-create a team brand, logo, name
-create mood boards?
