Week Five: In-class notes

Today in class we went to the Event Stream's pitch session. They explained to us what all of their roles in the Creative Market P(a)lace are and who we need to get in touch with for certain problems that we may encounter.  These are the notes from that meeting:

We also had some time to brainstorm ways to figure out how to develop and change our idea. During this time we spoke to the lecturers about potential developments and also how to collaborate/ tie our ideas into the rest of the teams and the overall market.

Following this discussion,  we had a further in-depth look into our idea, and how we can make it better.

Is the idea of handing out passports and stamping them good enough? What do people truly get out of it? Is it personalised? These thoughts came after watching the face-o-mat video and hearing things said from particular people in the events stream.

The face-o-mat video was really cool. I like the set up the artist had and how he made it interesting in his fold up art stall with the different gadgets he included. The portability and personalisation in the art based product was very cool to see.

Next week we could pitch two versions of our passport idea and see which one works best and is best understood by participants. The ideas need to be progressed enough so people understand them. We will be able to see what aspects work and what doesn't work by prototyping.

Our team does want to stick with the passport idea and make it work the best we can, we just have to communicate our offering and intention clearly to the events teams so they understand it better. We heard some people questioning our offering because they were planning on doing similar things. We can't wait to hear what the events stream has to say in their presentation.

Presentation notes:

  • overall vision (not a theme): ESCAPISM
  • not defined to make offering relation to vision
  • Market board and human resources, overall market running
  • finance - stamps as a value of exchange
  • card - 12 stamps card? method of payment
  • sounds limited - could not visit every stall with 12 stamps if some stalls are worth 3 stamps each
  • What are people's needs? food/drink
  • Something to take away. Game played with a food reward (waffles)
  • Human resources stall week 6 will have a stall set up for any questions
  • -material resources: 100% eco conscious (not eco friendly, only idealism not reality). Sustainable

  • Branding/marketing - logo, poster, flyers
  • social media

Events team points in the presentation

As a team we want to help contribute to the market as a whole. We would like to encourage participation between customers at the market and various stalls and interactions. By using the passports, customers at the market are encouraged to visit lost of stalls to collect stamps in their passport as if they were travelling around the world. They can then find us in our flight attendant uniform for a reward.

After class I talked to Sam from Wayfinding. He was already talking to Ruth from Human resources who I had just messaged my idea to. I explained to Sam our idea and how it was just an option to include a map if we went down the path of creating an itinerary pack. This idea though seems to cross paths with their team as they want to make a map booklet with a map of the market and information about it. We could possibly use a small version of the map they make in our passport.

I also talked to Tia from the Finance team. I told her team our idea and they said they were thinking of doing something very similar. They pitched an idea about handing out cards for people to collect stamps on at the market as some sort of currency or exchange. They could not tell me a lot of detail today so Tia is meeting with our team on Friday morning to discuss the finance side of things and see if we can collaborate in any way.
