Week Five: Initial Prototyping

We used the instructions for folding a zine that Emma found to construct an initial prototype of the passport using a piece of A4 paper and a pair of scissors. By doing it this way we have created a small passport with 6 internal pages and a cover that can comfortably fit in a persons hand or pocket.

This is such a simple idea, but incredibly effective. If the activities/ stamps/ clues on the pages were done 2 per page there is room for 12 activities/ stamps/ clues. It may be a challenge to print on the correct areas so that when you folded it up all of the pages were the right way up and in the correct order, however this is definitely do-able. As it is just one piece of paper, the cost would be low, and if you printed in black and white only, the printing cost per unit would only come to 10 cents per booklet once you printed on both sides.

Following this decision, we have decided to prototype two different iterations of the passports idea for the week 6 prototype trial market place. We will make 5 passports for each of the ideas so that 5 people get to try out each of our ideas. We will be evaluating how well both of the trials go and also using the feedback we get from the participants to inform the decision of which iteration of our idea to take forward.

1st Idea: Passports Treasure Hunt/ Amazing Race

• Each page has an imprint/ silhouette of the stamp on it that the participant has to find. There could be a clue or a riddle that they will have to solve. 
• The clue could send them to participate in another teams stall or perhaps to a random location around the marketplace.
• Once they reach this location they have to do the offering or a small task like a riddle or something and then they get a stamp.
• Once they have all of the stamps (probably three or four for the prototype market) they can come back to us and get a prize e.g. lollies or chocolate.
• We need to make it challenging but not impossible.
• 1 out of five of the passports is a special one with a unique stamp in it. If a participant gets this passport they can come to us and get a special prize e.g. bag of lollies.
• Approx. numbers of supplies for the prototype market are: 5 x passports, 3-4 x stamps (depending on the number of stalls/ locations we have participating), 5 x prizes, 1x big prize.

2nd Idea: Trip Advisor Passport

• We give the passport to 5 different people and they rate either the stalls that they visit or 3-4 stalls that we collaborate with and select.
• Could use a star system- e.g. colouring them in or using stickers that we give them to rate the stalls and possibly leave a comment. 
• We could give this feedback to the teams whose offerings were evaluated for the prototype market. In the overall Week 10 market, the feedback would be given to the documentation team so that they could document the success of the day. 
• We could do a prize incentive for the people who participate, e.g. how ever many stalls you evaluate is how many lollies you get. Or perhaps if people evaluated them all they could get a chocolate bar. 
• Approx. numbers of supplies for the prototype market are: 5 x passports, 5 x coloured pencils or sets of stickers, 5 x prizes.
